This course covers aircraft types and capabilities, aviation management and safety for flying in and working with aircraft. 
The class discusses agency tactical and logistical uses of aircraft and requirements for helicopter take-off and landing areas.

Battalion Chief Chris Bowden
Chris Bowden is a BC for the City of Upland. He entered the fire service in 1994 working for the Valley Center Fire Protection District under the direction of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Chris Promoted to the rank of Reserve Engineer in 1996. After attending Paramedic School at Crafton Hills College Chris was hired by the City of Vista as a Firefighter/Paramedic in 1999 and promoted to the rank of Captain in 2007.
 In 2010 was hired by the City of Upland as a Captain. Chris has also been on staff at Palomar College working with the Fire Academy since 2005 and is currently an Adjunct Instructor with the Wildland Cadre. As a child, Chris developed a passion for aviation at an early age. Chris' grandfather was a private pilot, taking Chris for his first flight at the age of 6 months old. While a child, Chris lived in Alaska where is father was a geologist. Chris spent many summers in camps where the only transportation was by Helicopter, only furthering his love of Aviation. In 2007 Chris earned his Private Pilots Licenses and is certified to fly single engine high performance and complex aircraft. Currently Chris is working on obtaining his Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) pilots licenses with aspirations of obtaining licensure as a certified flight instructor.
